once again, i lied. i’ve got internet. and i even figured out how to get on facebook. these past days in yangshuo have been amazing! the scenery is so beautiful it looks almost fake. these past couple of days i’ve held monkeys, floated on a bamboo raft down a river, eaten a part of a duck foot (it’s said to be good luck? haha), been invited to sit with a couple of villagers as they washed their clothes in a stream, ridden a bike through the mountains, eaten a passion fruit for the first time, and so much more! today gas been a more chill day. elizabeth krist, the photographer from nat geo, is personally critiquing each of our hot shots, or our top photos, in private sessions. i was the first to go so she already critiqued my photos. not gonna lie, i was extremely nervous before i walked into her room because her opinion means so much to me. but the session went much better than i thought it would. she said i had a lot of strong photos. i’m a few minutes late for lunch, so i should probably get going. more later! xoxo katie
today i visited the terra cotta warriors. it was truly amazing to see all the time and effort that must have been put into them, from the artists who made them long ago to the archeologists who uncovered and tried to restore them. today was also jenny’s birthday. mars and i went to a supermarket where no one spoke a word of english and we ordered her a cake, asking for iced flowers and happy birthday in chinese written on it. not gonna lie, we were pretty proud of ourselves. i feel like it was definitely more chill today. while i’d love to ramble on more about china, i really have to get packing so i can get to sleep. we have to be down in the hotel lobby at 5:30 am tomorrow so we can make our flight to yangshuo. this time we’re actually going to a remote village where i doubt there’ll be any internet. soo you all probably won’t hear from me until shanghai in a few days? anyway, love and miss you all! xoxo, katie.
